Breasts. A lot of us have them. Many of us will use them to feed infants and babies. But if you aren’t familiar with terms like latch, let down, colostrum, engorgement, or mastitis, then you might need some guidance. And if nipple shields, tubing and membranes sound more like a strange spring break than breast pump parts, then skip wandering aimlessly through Target’s baby aisles and come here instead.
The Care Connection can either rent you a hospital grade pump or sell you a pump according to your insurance plan and how it incorporates the Affordable Care Act to cover pumping and supplies. The store will contact your insurance for you and lay out your options, which is great if you are an overwhelmed pregnant person. Speaking of overwhelmed pregnant people, I actually sent my husband here for parts while I was home with our latest baby, and they kindly talked him through everything we would need. The guy does have a PhD, but no boobs, so I wasn’t sure how this would work out- I was pleasantly surprised! Beyond the pump and related supplies, the store has many items that are a must have for breastfeeding moms- clothing, bras, pillows, wraps, creams, etc. They even have an interesting supply of edibles- supplements, essential oils and cookies to help boost your supply. This is not in my wheelhouse, but if it’s in yours, they have you covered!
Finally, the care connection offers many classes such as Breastfeeding 101, Infant CPR, Happiest Baby, Return to Work/Pumping and a class for “Baby Ready Pets” which is not one I have seen before, and I’ve been around this baby block a few times! While I did not participate in the classes (so many babies at this point) their variety sounds like it would really help prepare new parents or parents looking for a refresher.
I started going to the Care Connection before my son was born for nursing bras, swaddle blankets (nice and big!), my nursing pillow and other breastfeeding/baby essentials. My husband and I also took the Breastfeeding 101 and Happiest Baby classes. The classes were relaxed and so helpful – we felt very comfortable asking all our questions and the instructors took their time to answer all of them. The staff is wonderful and so helpful. They provide individualized attention and advocate for their customers.
They truly want to see women succeed with breastfeeding and caring for their babies. Most recently, I went for a lactation consult as I was having some breastfeeding concerns and resulting anxiety. It was great – I immediately felt relief after just a few minutes talking to the certified lactation consultant. She wasn’t pushy or hard nosed with rules – she worked with our situation and we came up with a plan that suits our family best. She showed us what we can do differently to make breastfeeding more enjoyable instead of anxiety ridden – by that night feeding sessions were already completely different – relatively pain and stress free. I cannot say enough about how much the Care Connection staff has helped me as a first time mom. Thank you! Beth
What a great place to get the help and support you need, make friends, and learn all about your baby!!! Katie
The ladies at care connection have been so helpful, welcoming and comforting. I initially went there for my pump and keep going back for all my supplies, bras, tanks, and lactation cookies, etc. Their back to work pumping class was awesome and I love that you can stop in for a weigh and feed. It really gave me some piece of mind! Michelle
Because of the care connection I have not given up on breast feeding my daughter. I am still working really hard to keep this up and they have been nothing but a huge help. I am so very grateful to these ladies and their advice. It keeps me going when my body says otherwise. Thank you so very much!!!! Shana
